Oh man, if only this could be done!  Unfortunately, no....things just
don't work like that in LightWave...yet?  I've been asking for this
feature for more than a year now on the NewTek BBS, and apparently Allen
is considering it, but there are a few problems involved.

Maybe by LightWave 5.0 it'll be a feature....  =)
